Windows 10 / 11 · Intel or AMD x64 · German or English dictation and interface

Early test version: Windows 11 acceptance testing is not complete. Install updates manually through this page. Release notes and checksum.

Built for your Windows desktop.

Optional clipboard mode: it replaces the previous clipboard contents with your dictation. The text stays there until you copy something else. The default direct input mode leaves your clipboard untouched.

Installation and updates.

  1. Get the installer using the download button on this page. It installs for your user account without administrator rights. If inlaut is already running, quit it through its system tray icon before installing.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen displays “Windows protected your PC”, first check that you started this official inlaut download. If you want to install it and Windows offers the options, choose “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
  3. Smart App Control or your organisation’s policies may block unsigned apps entirely. If Windows offers no way to continue, cancel the installation; keep security protections enabled. Read Microsoft’s explanation of Windows security warnings.
  4. Launch inlaut, choose your microphone, dictation language and shortcut, then try a short dictation. You can select the interface language independently. Restart after changing a language.

Updates are manual: download a new beta from this page, quit inlaut completely, then run the new installer. Installation through the in-app updater is not available for this unsigned beta.

A beta, with clear limits.

This is an early Windows release, not feature parity with the Mac app. On Windows, choose German or English in settings and restart to change language. Mixed languages within one dictation are not supported. Apple speech recognition, Apple Intelligence corrections and the Mac file-transcription feature are not included. There is no native ARM build.

Your speech stays on your PC.

Dictations are not sent to a recognition server. Normal dictation does not keep an audio or text history. Optional diagnostic test captures can save audio and text locally when you explicitly turn them on. Reports are never uploaded automatically. Read the privacy details.

Already using inlaut on a Mac?

The macOS version remains available for Apple silicon and macOS 26 or later. It supports English and German, including mixed sentences. Both versions share local processing, custom replacements and snippets; their speech engines and additional features differ.
